I had a great weekend this weekend! DH was mostly the reason. I had to work on Saturday and I was mostly on my feet (Note: I’m not counting that as part of my great weekend). So, it was because of Saturday that I welcomed a lazy, daisy rest of the weekend. Hmmm...a play by play of the high points?

First, he put together a night stand for me that now sits beside the bed on my side. Yay! It’s mine, mine, mine!! And it looks all cute and perfect with all my knitting books and study helps neatly placed inside. Now all I need is a little lamp and all will be well with the world. As I filled it, he stood by in amazement and shook his head. So cute! I did fill this nightstand in only just under ten minutes I might add!

Sunday, after I got back from the supermarket, he took me to see a movie matinee at my favorite movie theater and shared his beloved Twizzlers! Now you wouldn’t know this, but he would actually fight for his Twizzlers! They’re his favorite candy. But I asked him for some and he didn’t even bat an eye, argue or say his usual, “Nope, get your own.” Hey, he’s got his boundaries, and the buck stops at the Twizzlers! So even with all the rest of the great things we did this weekend, it was with this gesture I knew in the deepest part of my heart that he really loves me!

After the movies, I fixed a late lunch and an early dinner. Late lunch was just BBQ turkey burger and fries. I figured, that would probably even hold me over till breakfast the next day since it was so late. Not so for my better half. When I went to pick our firstborn up from the grands, he ate half the meatloaf that I fixed for dinner! Now this was no ordinary meatloaf. It was about twice the size the recipe called for to form the loaf. This was a Hungry Man MeatLoaf. I know how my husband eats. He’s not a huge man at all. But he can put it away! Remarkable! Well, I was flattered. Stunned. But flattered, nonetheless.

This was all in one Sunday and since I had to work on Saturday, I only got a few rows on the wrap done since Friday. I’m up to shaping the neck. But, I will say, as pregnant as I am, all of Sundays events wiped me out and by the time he was done dealing with our little one, I was happy, content, and fast asleep. What a weekend!!

When we come to the end
of all of the light we know
and must step into the darkness
of the unknown,
we must believe
that we will find something firm to stand on
or that we will be taught to fly.

No more Pooh? Unbelievable! My son is seven years old and he has rejected Pooh! Pooh was his theme when he was born simply because we didn’t know whether the baby was going to be a girl or a boy. So instead of Minnie or Mickey, we chose Pooh. Cute and neutral. Simple enough. But as I was ironing his clothes to wear to school yesterday, Pooh got the boot!

I didn’t have to do much. I figured he’d wear these very nice gray sweatpants and his gray and blue Winnie the Pooh shirt (which exactly matches those sweatpants-and that’s a very hard thing to do by the way). My son, continuing from one of his infamous, run-on sentence/thought structures goes on to say, “blah, blah, blah,…and mom, do you think I can wear something cool today? I’m sort of over Pooh.” It was a mild shock and I chuckled because I can see what’s coming next. I stopped what I was doing and began looking for another top while he was dispensing knowledge, smiling to myself the whole time. And as he always does after dropping an atomic bomb on his mother, he took a more sensitive approach for my sake and offered an explanation, “It’s just that I’m too big for that kind of stuff now….” While I listened to a little boy school me on hip big boy wear for kids, his father, my adorable, but ever-opposing husband had to get in on the fun and said, “Yeah, I don’t know what’s wrong with your mom. She doesn’t know…”

Yes, mom doesn’t. Mom would have been just as content to let him wear that shirt at age eight...Age nine even. But mom, of course, shocked and amused, just spread another shirt over his bed for him to wear to school. A big boy shirt.

I just couldn't help myself.
I finished them last night.

So I added a little bit of a decorative pearl border...

...and ribbons on the back so they can tie to the front (the pattern called for this and I couldn't see any other use for it except for that).

So, what do you think?

I think they're really cute. DH says, "What if it's a boy? You don't put ribbons on it if it's a boy." Hmmm...that's right...

So here's to hoping it's a girl! ;)

I had a great weekend this weekend! I got my car out of the shop, I had a few great meals, I went to the LYS for a visit, I saw a funny movie, I was amused by all the kicking going on in the tummy, I spent time with the hubby, and I took some time off of the jacket to knit these little beauties!!

Aren’t they precious! DH thinks they’re really cute too! My plan is to hit a craft shop at lunch time to get some decorations. I have also been toying with whether I want to knit a dress or a kimono style wrap for this little one. I’m thinking the wrap because even though I was told that it was a girl at my last sonogram, sonograms aren’t always the most accurate way of detecting sex. So the wrap would probably be the best choice. And I’m thinking ribbons. But what boy wants to go home in ribbons??? I’m also hoping that all this fits. Even though I’m knitting the specs for newborn size, my first child wasn’t so cheruby as he was long. Most of the knits I see for babies are for chunky babies. We’ll see...

Only one thing. The minute I saw the pattern for these baby things, I forgot I was looking for another yarn to knit the sleeves and hood in so...

Happy knitting!

Pregnancy is beginning to get old. I'm a little too tired, a little too sick, a little too this, and a little too that. I'm stretching my money as far as it'll go and my tummy too. I do want a healthy baby. But I do want my body back too. I know, one day at a time.

In the meantime it's back to knitting...and maybe back to the drawing board. I had to undo the hood because...yeah, I ran out of that color yarn again. Oh well. I sometimes imagine myself with a brain. Then I wake up. Oh, I'm intelligent enough. Catch on real quick. But ask me to remember something and those little tweety birds start reeling around my head. Doesn't help that I'm pregnant either. Pray for me.

So, we embark on another all too familiar journey through the hood again and see if maybe, just maybe, we can get it right this time. Please God?

A few of us have started a knitting/crochet basket at the college where I am employed. Anyone (faculty, staff, students, visitors, dog, cat, whoever) who is interested in knitting or crocheting can work on the projects in the basket. There is one for both crafts for beginners and another for both crafts for non-beginners. It's a pretty cool idea I think as our college is pretty small and the "homey" atmosphere works for the students who come here. This basket, hopefully, kind of adds to that. We (the other co-creators and I) hope to make it a tradition here. The premise is, it can be worked on, but it can only be ended by one of the co-creators. Sssshhhh! We don't plan on ending it for a good while-if we end it at all. It's just a good way to knit people together. Now all we need to do is find a place for a quickly growing stash. Isn't that just like fiber artists?

Till next time.
