On the Homefront
My son and I don't celebrate Halloween for religious reasons. But I don't let that stop him from costuming or eating candy at home. Can you guess who he wanted to be??? Spiderman!! Got pics of that coming. He and his father got a real kick out of looking like twins! I just snapped the pics of course!
In Knitting
I finished my first fair isle project!!!
No. It's not the mittens. I'll be working on those for quite a while! :) But I did get to complete a fair isle hat for my son.
The hat was a project for my first beginner knitting class. Actually it looks like I'm in on the second part of the class. They've already completed a scarf and what not. But that's cool. I've got casting on, knitting, purling and binding off down so I was a little ahead of the game. But this class will be more about color I think. We'll be extensively using the skills that were learned in the first part of the class to branch off into color. So we started a fair isle hat. Actually, I got the ribbing done and finished the inch of stockinette before leaving and I said I wasn't going to finish the hat on my own. The instructor said I'd probably finish it and start a new one next week in class. But I said I'd finish it when I got to class with everyone else. But then my little boy really needed it on his little peanut head. :) So I finished it and then cast on for another and got back to the place where I left off in the classroom. Nobody will ever know the difference!! The only part I don't like is having to seam it afterward. I really would have rather knit in the round. But it's good practice. Maybe it'll help me knit a sweater later on, huh? Hey, it could happen.
I also completed an afghan for my son's grandmother. I used Homespun because I was a little tight on cash. But it knit up very nicely! She got a rocking chair for her birthday so the afghan was a nice little additional gift. Of course, there is a Hulk Green Afghan on the horizon since my son was a little upset the afghan wasn't for him. Promises, promises...
I finished the first sleeve of the sweater I'm working on. I had to change the color to blue toward the end which means I'll have to do the same to the other sleeve as well...Let you know how all that goes...
I got two new books! SNB NATION and LAST-MINUTE KNITTED GIFTS (not sure if I got that second title right). But I haven't really had a chance to look in them yet. I'm taking them to work today to look at them. Give you the low down when I get it myself! ;)
Stitches With Style, my favorite yarn store in Delaware, moved to an actual shop!! SWS used to be out of Sheryl's house. Now she has a store with classrooms and lots and lots of space!! Just look at all that yummy yarn, would you?! When she had it in her house, at least I couldn't see all I could get in debt with...now I have nary a chance!!!
So these are the facts.

Sigh....
My knitting class starts soon and I can't wait!!! I may have the basics of knitting down, but I'm slow as mollases in January and I really want to learn more on seaming. I think once I learn a bit of that, I'll feel like I've accomplished something this year. Sort of treading water over here with the knitting. Little longer on the sleeve. Almost to the thumb now. Waiting on a couple of knit books from Amazon and knitting on a blanket. Yes, I had to put down my sweater and my mittens for a little bit this past week to knit a blanket for a friend. It took me forever to finally decide to do something I could remember instead of having to cart around the blanket and the pattern only to get settled somewhere and work, rip, work again on a blanket that needs to be finished yesterday. That's a mouthful! It's almost finished. It's very simple though it gets lots of compliments. It's Homespun yarn on size 13 needles so it's going pretty quickly. I'll post a pic some other time. It's been a bear trying to get on here with this new DSL thing! I think it has problems. It's slower than dial up!!!
Hopefully next time is a much longer, much nosier post. Until then...
Happy Knitting!!
